Reminder to all Optimists,

Please note the time change for our next meeting on Wednesday evening February 7th. We will be meeting at the Gettysburg Seminary Refectory at 6:45 PM. Dinner will be served.

Our guest speaker for the evening will be Alex Hayes, managing editor of the Gettysburg Times.

Plan to join us for an evening of fellowship.

January 17, 2018 Meeting Minutes

The Optimist Club of Gettysburg met on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary Refectory.  A delicious shrimp pasta dinner was prepared by Biggerstaff Catering.

President Dan Mattern welcomed (16) members and (2) guests. Dan opened the evening with the invocation and pledge. Dinner was served.

Evening Agenda:

  1. Dan recognized our guests Chris Bender invited by Brian Skidmore and Craig Walker invited by Bruce Bradshaw.

Chris has decided to become a member of our club. Welcome aboard Chris, as a member of the “Optimist Club of Gettysburg.”

  1. Reports: President’s report given by Dan involved the club members voting to accept the new “By Laws”. With this action we can now submit our paperwork and move forward as a 501 c 3 nonprofit club. Dan and all club members in attendance thank Sam Isenberger, Bob Campbell, and Rich Finkenbiner for their arduous effort in completing this task.

Secretary’s report emailed by Daryl was approved and Treasure’s report given by Tom.

  1. Committee Reports:
    1. Basketball (Kris and Mindy) – Kris reported that approximately 130 children are involved in our program and numbers have been increasing weekly. Help is needed this Saturday January 20 from 9-12PM at the Gettysburg Middle School gym due to “Photo Shoot” so if you can help it will be greatly appreciated. Joe MacDowell and Al Parone are setting up lower height hoops for the children.
    2. Oyster / Shrimp Feed (Wayne and Stacey) – The date is set for March 24. Our website and Facebook is receiving positive response and Marci reported reservations have been made.

The word is START SELLING TICKETS NOW!!!! Be sure to collect the money and mark paid on the ticket.

3. Golf (Bruce) Every member is being asked to help get sponsors and foursomes. If all 33 Optimist members each get a $500.00 sponsor the Optimist Golf Tournament will be a huge success!!!! If you prefer Daryl or Bruce will phone potential sponsors, just email name and phone number

4. Fundraiser – Further discussion about parking cars at the Gettysburg Wine and Music Festival, Saturday and Sunday, September 8th & 9th sponsored by the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce continued. We will be following up on the feasibility of our club handling this opportunity.

Hi everyone,

We are closely monitoring the weather conditions for tomorrow. If we feel that it is necessary to cancel any or all Optimist Basketball sessions we will announce that on our website, Facebook page and radio station 107.7 as soon as possible. As always please stay safe in your travels and if you can’t make a session we understand.

Meeting Minutes January 3, 2018

The Optimist Club of Gettysburg met on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary Refectory.  A delicious chicken dinner was prepared by Biggerstaff Catering.

President Dan Mattern welcomed (14) members and (1) guest. Dan opened the evening with the invocation and pledge. Dinner was served.

Evening Agenda:

  1. Dan recognized Ted Sayres for being Santa Claus, Stacey and staff for providing a delicious Christmas dinner, and Al Parone for bringing a guest, Joe Parone.
  2. Reports: President’s report given by Dan, Secretary’s report emailed by Daryl was approved, and Treasure’s report given by Tom.
  3. Committee Reports:
    1. Basketball (Kris and Mindy) – Kris reported that our first date is this Saturday, 1-6, and coaches are still needed. Joe MacDowell and members are setting up lower height hoops for the children.
    2. Christmas/ Magic Show (Doug) – The show was a success and money is still being received.
    3. Oyster / Shrimp Feed (Wayne and Stacey) – The date is set for March 24. The word is START SELLING TICKETS NOW!!!!

    5. Membership – Dan initiated discussion regarding ways to increase club membership. Many ideas were brainstormed. The officers and board of directors will review the suggestions and discuss the next step. (*See attached document for list of new membership ideas.)
    6. Fundraiser – Stacey and Darlene introduced parking cars at the Gettysburg Wine and Music Festival, Saturday and Sunday, September 8th & 9th sponsored by the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce as a new fundraiser. Club members at the meeting were all in agreement that the club needs to pursue this opportunity.

Member Update:

Walt Jones recently had knee replacement. Members wish Walt a speedy recovery.
