In November, we have three days dedicated to shopping; Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration.

On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, people around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.

It’s that time of year. The weather is changing and the Gettysburg Optimist Club is getting in gear for Optimist Basketball.  Registration is now open.  Youth in grades 1-6 are welcome to participate in this free basketball program. Sessions begin January 5th at the Gettysburg Middle School gym and will occur every Saturday through the end of February.  Children can be registered by the following:

1) Fill out the Sign Up form online (One child per form submittal please)
2) Complete a printed registration form and mail it to the coaches, Kris or Mindy Accardi at 5A Bonniefield Circle Gettysburg, PA 17325.
3) Attend a Sign Up Session December 1 or December 8 from 9-11 AM at the Gettysburg Middle School to fill out the required paperwork.

2019 Basketball Schedule

The Optimist Club of Gettysburg met on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary Refectory.  A delicious smoked brisket dinner was prepared by Biggerstaff Catering. President Brian Skidmore welcomed (17) members. Brian opened the evening with the pledge of allegiance and gave the invocation.

Business Meeting:

1. Walt Jones, Fred Darling, and Lyne Aurand had been given the task of creating criteria for helping in the selection of “Gettysburg Optimist” student recipients for “Dollars for Scholars”. Walt presented the proposal to the club with choices for the members to choose from. The proposal was discussed and with the members assistance the finalized criteria will be presented at a future meeting to be voted on for approval.
2. Brian, Dan Mattern, and Gary Rappoldt represented our club at the 1^st quarter zone meeting in York.
3. The board of directors discussed a change in reducing dues for couples, full price for (1) and ½ price for the (2^nd). After the motion and discussion it was approved and decided this would be tried for a one year trial period.
4. Our next meeting is our annual Optimist Christmas Dinner @ Gettysburg Seminary Refectory, 12-12-18. Please RSVP Tom Barako.
5. The meeting was concluded by reciting the Optimist Creed.
