The Optimist Club of Gettysburg met on Wednesday, April 4, 2019 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary Refectory.  A delicious baked chicken dinner was prepared by Biggerstaff Catering. Vice President Marci Cropp welcomed 15 members and 1 guest. Marci opened the evening with the Pledge of Allegiance and Bill Pyron gave the invocation. We had a great evening of fellowship.

Speaker:  Elida Murray, Executive Director of Adams County Children’s Advocacy Center

Business Meeting:

  1. Secretary’s Report approved
  2. Treasurer’s Report approved
  3. President’s Report
  4. Committee Reports:
    1. Oyster / Shrimp Feed (Wayne and Stacey) – another successful oyster/shrimp feed and thank you to all who helped make this event a success. The following are suggestions discussed at meeting that will be decided before next year’s event:
      1. Change oyster/shrimp feed time to 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Some comments were most people have arrived and are finished eating by 2:00 PM. Another comment was to consider when Optimist volunteers will eat.
      2. Wash oysters to be steamed Friday night and steam even more ahead on Sat prior to opening. Also, look into steamer baskets that had been used at old fire hall.
    2. Golf (Bruce) Every member is being asked to help get sponsors and foursomes.
      1.  Contact every family member and friend in the area that you know that plays golf and invite them.
      2. Any businesses that you work for or know ask them to be a sponsor. Show them a list of what we do for kids.

If all 32 Optimist members each get a $500.00 sponsor or foursome the Optimist Golf Tournament will be a huge success!!!!  If you prefer that Daryl, Wayne or Bruce phone potential sponsors, just email name and phone number to them.

  1. The meeting was concluded by reciting the Optimist Creed.
